Basswood Blinds

Basswood Blinds Guide

Basswood (Tilia Americana) is more commonly referred to as American Whitewood.  Basswood has been in use for ages.  One of its best known features is that it is not a very hard wood.  In fact basswood is very light and often used for carvings.  This makes it an ideal wood for blinds.  Basswood blinds are very light in weight and do not put much stress on the wall that they are hanging off of or the strings that hold them together.  Because basswood is such a light wood the slats can be made bigger and can block out more light.  The slats for the basswood blinds can range from one inch to about two and a half inches.
Unfortunately bass wood is not a very strong wood and is susceptible to breaking is put under too much strain so there is a limit on how long they can be.  One good thing about basswood is that it can hold color beautifully and is very easy to work with.  This means that they can come in a variety of colors and if you don't like them you, yourself, can change them.

Basswood Blinds Pros And Cons

Basswood can offer a great natural feel to your home for very little money.  Basswood is also good in the sense that it has very little grain.  This makes the wood very smooth and even.  Basswood is also white in color so any color applied to the bass wood blinds will show very well.  However blinds that are made out of this wood are primarily for use indoors unless properly treated.  Even if they are properly treated basswood blinds are not very durably and can dent or break in strong winds.
