Pleated Blinds
Pleated blinds have to be one of my all time favorite type of blinds, next to cellular which is really just a break off of pleated blinds. The only thing you might not like about pleated blinds is that while down you cannot adjust the amount of light that gets let in like you can with slat blinds. On the other hand, that allows them to block out more light and it blocks out the light evenly. There are no light or dark spots and no spaces where the light can creep in. Pleated blinds also offer more insulation, especially when put in rows or layers to make cellular blinds which basically looks like a strand of hexagons. Pleated blinds also offer great looks. With all other blinds you get a look that doesn't fit in, sometimes it can end up looking like a school room. With pleated blinds it fits very naturally because they are coated with material... Just like everything else. What it also nice is you can get the blinds to match the wall.
Basics of Pleated Blinds
Pleated blinds are basically a piece of material folded back and forth from one end to another with the space between the folds being reinforced with a thick cardboard or plastic. Now they aren't actually made this way. The way they are made is by taking a bunch of slats and either joining them along their edges or by taking the slats, lining them up and then covering them with material then sewing each one in place. Now none of this would work if there wasn't a draw string of some sort. Now for most of them there will be holes on each side of every slat so that a cord can run from the bottom piece all the way up to the top of the blinds and back down on the outside. They work very similarly to slat blinds as far as the draw string goes.
Suggestions
I would suggest not using cellular blinds with anything that is not set into the wall. There is not point because they will not provide insulation. You might as well go with a single layer pleated blind to give your house a simpler more elegant look. As for the windows that are set into the wall Cellular blinds would block out more light, provide better insulation and the wholes that are made for the string will be in the very inside of the curtain, at least in most cases. This may vary depending on where you buy them, but that will eliminate and unwanted sources of light. One more thing, if you like color, I think that pleated blinds offer more of a variety, but then again, that all depends on where you do your shopping.
