Roller Blinds

Roller Blinds Guide

Roller blinds can work one of two way: they can role up from the bottom vial a pull string or the can be rolled up at the top.  This normally uses a wound spring that is locked into place by the blind fasteners that hold it above the window.  The can use the pull string method, but that is normally used in larger blinds.  Roller blinds com in a variety of shapes and sizes and can vary greatly in quality and cost.  On the cheaper end of the spectrum there is the standard roller blind that uses a coiled spring, as was mentioned before, to wind up a sheet of thin, flexible paper like plastic.   The blinds do a fairly good job of blocking the sun light.  These are normally used for average size windows, however, because they are basically a spool they can cover taller window too.  There are roller blinds with thicker plastic sheets, but those are normally used for larger windows.  The reason for this is because the larger windows can house more and can support the added weight as well as fit the larger blinds.  These blinds were very popular for a long time, especially during the 1980s.  Now they seem to be getting replaced by slat blinds.
On the more expensive side of the spectrum a fabric or material is used.  This is largely up to the buyer and can range from bamboo to cotton.  These blinds, because they use fabrics, are heavier and therefore cannot be wound up by a spring nor can they be rolled from the top because the amount or tension needed is more than most people want.  So the roller blinds that use fabric are normally rolled up from the bottom.  This is done by wrapping a cord down around the blinds.  Around the back the cord is fastened in place and the other side is strung back through the top mount and then runs back down for the consumer to then pull thus creating a rolling motion at the bottom of the blinds and allowing the user to roll the blinds up.

Roller Blinds Popularity

Roller blinds are popular because they are cheap and effective.  They are great at blocking the sun out uniformly and thoroughly.  The blinds are easily produced and widely available and do not break very easily.  There are very few, if any, complicated parts in roller blinds.  Yes, they have withstood the test of time and have proven effective over the years and they look good while they do it.  Roller blinds come in all sizes and colors.  Unfortunately there is not much room for improvement, so it is unlikely that they will win back the popular spot they once held unless there is a change in popular culture.
